About Beyond the Burn Foundation
Supporting Burn Survivors Across the Country
Over a Decade of Success!
Founded in 2012 as Sons of the Flag, Beyond the Burn Foundation began with a simple but powerful mission: to help a single burn survivor overcome the overwhelming challenges of recovery. What started as one act of compassion quickly grew into a national movement dedicated to improving the lives of burn survivors and advancing the future of burn care.
Over the next decade, Sons of the Flag became a recognized leader in the burn community by investing in innovative research, funding advanced medical fellowships, and providing direct support to veteran, first responder, and civilian burn survivors across the United States. Through partnerships with leading burn centers, physicians, researchers, social workers, and healthcare professionals, the organization helped expand access to specialized treatment while addressing the long-term physical, emotional, and financial challenges survivors face after leaving the hospital.
As the organization’s impact continued to grow, so did its understanding of what survivors truly needed. Burn recovery extends far beyond wound healing. It is a lifelong journey that requires ongoing medical care, emotional support, financial assistance, strong community partnerships, and continued innovation.
To better reflect this broader vision, Sons of the Flag became Beyond the Burn Foundation. While the name changed, the mission remained the same: ensuring that no survivor walks the road to recovery alone. The rebrand represents an evolution, not a departure, honoring more than a decade of service while embracing a future focused on every aspect of lifelong healing.
Today, Beyond the Burn Foundation supports survivors and empowers communities through three core initiatives: direct survivor assistance, investments in medical and behavioral health fellowships, and collaborative advocacy that strengthens systems of burn care nationwide. Since 2012, the organization has invested more than $2.5 million to improve recovery outcomes, support families, train future burn care leaders, and expand access to life-changing resources.
Guided by the belief that recovery does not end at hospital discharge, Beyond the Burn Foundation continues to build a future where every burn survivor has access to the care, community, and opportunities needed to heal beyond the burn.
Thank you to all who have supported and who continue to support our mission.
